Summer Song began in 1959 as
an ice cream street vendor using
tricycle pedal carts.

The year was 1959
—a very flavorful year. Tropical Hawaii was making waves as it entered America as the 50th state, Andy Warhol’s famous “Ice Cream Dessert” painting charmed sweet-toothed art-lovers around the world, and a fresh-faced young entrepreneur named Tom Renwald started an ice cream vending company in a tiny corner of Northwest Indiana with just a few bicycles and a couple of dozen ice cream bars.

Soon, Renwald’s small business expanded across the Midwest with locations across Indiana and Michigan. The bicycle carts grew into a larger fleet of ice cream trucks, and the transformation of the modern Summer Song truck continued as the sleek, stylish yellow-and-white vans hit the streets of major metropolitan markets.

Today, Summer Song maintains a line of over 250 trucks in the Midwest and South, delivering over 10 million frozen treats each year. Throughout the years, we’ve worked hard to maintain our positive image of excellent service and unique premium products. It’s our job to bring happiness to you in the form of ice cream, and by your grateful responses, we must be doing it well.
